Call for applications – Summer internship scholarship for undergraduate students
The Advanced Materials Academy (AMA) invites undergraduate students interested in advanced materials research to submit their application for a summer internship.
We invite undergraduate students in chemistry, physics or engineering who would like to do an internship with a professor who is a regular member of RQMP to submit their application (see eligibility criteria).
Why apply?
By offering a $4,000 scholarship, this internship program offers a unique opportunity to discover the field of advanced materials, gain hands-on laboratory experience, and work alongside researchers and experts in the field.
Eligibility criteria :
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate in a discipline related to advanced materials.
- Not have completed a bachelor’s degree by the start of the scholarship period.
- Have a strong interest in research and development.
- Be supervised by an RQMP professor.
- Complete a 14-week internship between May and September 2025.

- A CV detailing their academic background and relevant experience.
- All of their university transcripts (unofficial copies accepted).
- A cover letter explaining their academic background and their motivations for choosing this laboratory as an internship environment.
Selection Process: Applications will be analyzed by a selection committee composed of doctoral and postdoctoral students.
Deadline for applications: Documents must be submitted before March 10 at 11:59 p.m.

The Quebec network on advanced materials (RQMP) is launching a call for applications to join the first cohort of the Advanced Materials Academy, funded by NSERC’s CREATE program. The Academy is an initiative designed to enhance training and workforce preparation for the next generation of scientists in the field of advanced materials.
We invite students who are currently in the early stages of their master’s or doctoral studies under the supervision of a professor who is a regular member of the RQMP to apply (see eligibility criteria).
Successful candidates will benefit from a training program that complements their studies, including training in each of the following areas:
- Practical workshops in advanced instrumentation;
- Advanced computer skills;
- Sustainable development;
- Business skills;
- Communications, project management, knowledge transfer, and/or ethics;
- Research integrity and intellectual property;
- Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
Each program participant must also :
- Complete a four-month mobility experience, either an exchange abroad or an internship with a Canadian company;
- Participate in the mentoring program;
- Participate in at least one edition of the program’s summer school.
Students must complete their training within two (2) years for the master’s program and four (4) years for the doctoral program.
Each participant will receive an AMA scholarship of $10,000/year for the duration of the program. This scholarship must be supplemented by funds from the participant’s supervisor, in accordance with the guidelines applicable at their institution. Mobility allowances are also provided for program-related travel.
Eligibility criteria :
- Be enrolled in the fall of 2024 in a master’s or doctoral program in chemistry, physics or engineering in the field of advanced materials, under the supervision of an RQMP member, at one of the four participating universities (Université de Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, McGill University, Université de Sherbrooke);
- Have started your master’s program no earlier than May 2024, or your doctoral program no earlier than September 2023;
- Commit to participating in all Academy program training activities, including a compulsory 4-month full-time internship (in a company or abroad).
- A student currently enrolled in a master’s program and supervised by a professor from the Quebec network on advanced materials (RQMP) who is transferring from the master’s program to the doctoral program, and who has already been admitted to the doctoral program in January 2025, with the same supervisor, will be eligible to apply for the 2024-2025 IYA cohort as a doctoral student.

1) Cover letter (2 pages maximum) describing:
- Your academic background and previous research experience;
- Your current research project;
- Your career ambitions;
- Your motivation for participating in the Advanced Materials Academy program;
2) Description of a potential internship environment:
In about 250 words, explain your interests in a 4-month internship, either with a Canadian company or in an academic laboratory abroad. You don’t need to have already specifically identified or confirmed the internship location;
3) Scientific CV detailing your relevant experience and academic achievements;
4) All university transcripts (unofficial copies accepted);
5) Letter of support from your RQMP supervisor (please use the template ).
