WHO ARE WE ?<\/h2><\/span>

The RQMP is a network of scientists<\/strong> who collaborate together, with other scientists regionally and internationally, and with industry. Together, they explore and improve advanced materials science<\/strong>, useful for a wide range of technologies. What unites the members of the RQMP is their methods of synthesis, manufacture, characterization and numerical calculation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Indeed, these common methods allow scientific advances to be made in various fields of application. Thus, the expertise of a team needs to understand the contact properties in a quantum device can be found either with theorists or experimenters. The expertise of theorists working to identify new materials for solar panels and the one of experimenters who deposit optical layers are therefore complementary.<\/p>\n

The RQMP brings together 80 research teams in 3 institutional poles: Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al\/Polytechnique Montr\u00e9al, McGill University, and Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke.<\/strong> Together with the student community and research staff, it is a group of 580 people, to which is added about thirty collaborating members from other institutions, government research centers and industrial partnerships.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Advances in information, health, energy, or transport technologies will increasingly require the use of advanced materials.<\/p>\n

This makes it necessary to improve advanced engineering and characterization, numerical modelling and simulation, as well as the integration of new design tools. The fundamental structural, electronic and optical properties then discovered will inspire the development of more efficient materials or open the door to the exploitation of phenomena and the emergence of a considerable number of new technologies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

  • Materials for solar panels and batteries ; <\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Topological materials to manipulate quantum information without destroying it ; <\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Detectors of cancer molecules or COVID-19 ;<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Microstructures to manage heat emanating from electronic chips, or still layers allowing the reactors to be more efficient.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Our members receive important prizes and awards, such as being named Fellow by the Royal Society of Canada or seeing their discovery in Qu\u00e9bec Science’s top 10 discoveries of the year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
