SUMMARY:Sujet AMA Training – Intellectual Property
DESCRIPTION:On April 1 at 11:00 a.m.\, the Avdanced Materials Academy will be offering an online training session on intellectual property.\nWe are pleased to welcome Fred Venne (he/him)\, M.Sc.A.\, Director\, Patent Agent\, who will present the following session:\nThe Canadian Innovation Paradox: What Role Does Research Play in the Era of Productivity?\nSummaryCanada is home to several paradoxes\, one of the most intriguing being its innovation paradox. Numerous studies show that the country excels in research and talent development\, yet performs poorly when it comes to commercialization and productivity. How can this discrepancy be explained?\nIn this training session\, we will explore how research\, commercialization\, and intellectual property all contribute to this paradox. More concretely\, we will review the categories of intellectual property relevant to advanced materials\, and examine best practices—as well as common pitfalls—when an invention is emerging in this technological field.Examples drawn from research projects in chemistry\, physics\, and engineering will help illustrate the concepts and demonstrate how intellectual property can better support research valorization.\nAbout the Presenter\nFred (he/him) holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in engineering physics. He specializes in drafting and prosecuting patent applications\, as well as preparing opinions in the field of emerging technologies\, particularly in the physical sciences and materials science. His clients work in a wide range of sectors\, including quantum technologies\, optics\, photonics\, condensed matter physics\, and agricultural technologies.\nWe invite you to register now: https://umontreal.zoom.us/meeting/register/v170ehCrQ16CwM50yc1MyQ.Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.\nWe look forward to seeing you there!

The policy note is a simple and clear knowledge transfer tool that research can use to issue analyzes and recommendations on a specific societal issue or problem. We are pleased to invite you to our next workshop Sustainable materials and processes for the energy transition: Understanding the policy note as a communication and decision support tool. This workshop aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills to create effective and inclusive policy briefs allowing\, who knows\, to influence our decision-makers! \n\n\nDuring this collaborative morning\, participants will have the opportunity to: \n1) Understand the policy note tool and its usefulness \n2) Understand notions of complexity in the transition and the tools at our disposal to resolve them\, in particular: \na- The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals \nb- Eco-responsibility in research \nc- Systemic thinking \n3) Work as a team on a political note concerning critical materials and the battery sector in the energy transition \n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n\nTime\nActivity\n\n\n\n\n8h50 – 9h\nWelcoming participants\n\n\n9h – 9h50\nUnderstanding a political note\n\n\n9h50 – 10h\nBreak\n\n\n10h – 10h30\nSystemic approaches: SDGs and eco-responsibility in research\n\n\n10h30 – 12h\nPolicy note writing workshop\n\n\n12h – 13h\nPizzas lunch\n\n\n\n\nTo register ☜
